In 2023 Arrivabus, a UK-based public transport operator and active in multiple countries including Hungary, partnered with MOON POWER on a pilot phase of the Green Bus Program, a Hungarian Mobility Development Agency (HUMDA) demonstration project, to advance electric bus development.
As part of Budapest's transition to sustainable urban mobility, Arrivabus sought a reliable partner to support the development of an electric bus fleet and its charging infrastructure. MOON facilitated the initial selection and testing of sustainable buses and charging solutions, providing access to high-performance POWER Charger HYC 150 charging stations at the ITC facility Budaörs (Porsche Innovations- and Training Center).

Real world testing of electric buses and charging technology
In the first phase of Budapest's Green Bus Program, MOON enabled Arrivabus to test electric buses under real world conditions by provisioning POWER Charger HYC 150 charging stations at the Porsche Innovations- and Training Center in Budaörs. These chargers supported daily charging routines for several experimental vehicles from the manufacturers MAN and Mercedes.
Under optimal conditions, the POWER Charger HYC 150 charging stations consistently delivered sufficient energy to supply the 18-meter-long MAN Lion's City bus, designed to carry up to 130 passengers, with a full day of operation after only 3-4 hours of charging. Throughout the testing period, the charging equipment performed flawlessly without any technical issues recorded.
Technical consulting, training and knowledge transfer
Beyond providing infrastructure, MOON conducted training courses on electrification for Arrivabus and provided detailed technical documentation and expert consulting. The collected data and insights were later incorporated into Arrivabus' internal systems, supporting informed decision-making for future fleet deployment.
A key distinguishing factor of this project was MOON's involvment at an early planning stage. MOON POWER's expertise contributed not only to the evaluation of electric buses, but also to fleet concept development and the planning of depot design for the future operation of electric buses in Budapest.
