The Polz winery in Styria works as sustainably as possible with a view to the future. This is also reflected in the in-house photovoltaic system and the charging park.
The Polz winery in Styria is not only focusing on sustainability in viticulture: a photovoltaic system is used to produce solar power, which is available to both the winery and the charging stations for the company's own vehicles as well as for those of customers. Since respect in dealing with the environment is important to the Polz family.
For over 100 years, the Polz family has been cultivating their winery in southern Styria, in a respectful approach to nature. Essential attention has always been paid to the sustainability of their work, long before it became a buzzword. It is about much more than environmental protection. It is essential for long-term success in agricultural businesses. The renowned winery in Strass relies on consistent implementation in ecological, social and economic matters.
An ecological orientation of the winery also secures the approximately 50 jobs in the long term. Almost the entire vineyard area of a little less than 80 hectares is cultivated exclusively organically. This way, we can increase the quality of our wines more consistently. The wines from the top sites in the region such as Grassnitzberg, Hochgrassnitzberg or Obegg are an institution to which we are committed as well.
Not only has the ecological orientation of the vineyard and the wine cellar been consistently implemented in recent years, but the focus has also been on improving the energy efficiency of the buildings. This has reduced energy costs and energy is generated in an environmentally friendly way. There are 318 solar modules on the roof surfaces with a total output of 127.2 kWp. The photovoltaic system generates around 140,000 kilowatt hours per year. This significantly reduces the external electricity requirement and replaces it with environmentally friendly solar power. In addition, e-cars - both from the winery's own fleet and from its customers - are charged with clean electricity on site by the winery's self-generated green electricity.
The Polz winery is thus a guarantor for sustainable tourism in the region. After all, vehicles charged with solar power or green electricity are the most sustainable form of mobility in the passenger car sector.
The public charging stations are available around the clock. There are two wallboxes with 11 kW (AC) each and two other wallboxes with 30 kW (DC) each. The 30 kW charging stations supply direct current and thus allow for significantly faster charging. E-vehicles charged with clean electricity are good for customers as well as for the vineyard.
A sustainable vision for the future, precise craftsmanship and respectful cooperation. This is the core of our work, which connects us with partners such as MOON and AUDI.
